Green Haworth’s Art and Design curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, cultivate confidence and equip pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to express themselves with originality and purpose. Rooted in a broad and balanced educational offer, it provides children with opportunities to explore a diverse range of media, techniques and artistic traditions, while developing their ability to observe, experiment, evaluate and refine their work.

Pupils are introduced to the foundational elements of art, including line, tone, texture, shape, form, pattern and colour. They learn to use a range of materials and processes with increasing control, from drawing and painting to printing, sculpture and mixed media. As they progress, children develop a more secure understanding of artistic vocabulary and a greater awareness of how artists communicate meaning through visual language.
The curriculum also enriches pupils’ cultural capital by engaging them with the work of significant artists, craftspeople and designers from a variety of historical periods and cultural contexts. Through careful observation and thoughtful discussion, children learn to appreciate different styles, purposes and perspectives, while recognising the value of creativity in the wider world.
