At Green Haworth, Physical Education is an integral element of the curriculum, designed to promote the physical, social, emotional and mental well-being of every pupil. Our PE provision is guided by Lancashire’s Scheme of Work, as detailed below, which provides a carefully sequenced and progressive framework that enables children to develop knowledge, skills and confidence across a broad range of physical activities. Through this approach, pupils are supported to engage positively in lessons, refine their performance, and understand the importance of lifelong participation in physical activity.
Our school is committed to ensuring that all children are supported to achieve their best in a Church of England school, within a nurturing, supportive and inclusive environment. This commitment is reflected in the design and delivery of the PE curriculum, which values every child as an individual and ensures that learning opportunities are accessible, challenging and meaningful. Teachers use the scheme to deliver high-quality lessons that build competence in areas such as games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor activities, while also fostering resilience, cooperation and fair play.
Lancashire’s Scheme of Work underpins our ambition for pupils to make steady and secure progress. Lessons are structured to revisit and deepen prior learning, allowing children to acquire and apply fundamental movement skills before progressing to more complex techniques and tactics. In addition, the curriculum places strong emphasis on vocabulary, self-assessment and the development of healthy habits, ensuring that pupils can articulate their learning and take increasing responsibility for their own physical development.
At Green Haworth, PE is also understood as a vital means of promoting inclusion and enjoyment. Adaptations are made so that all pupils, including those with additional needs, can participate fully and experience success.
By combining Lancashire’s carefully planned scheme with the values of our school, we aim to inspire confident, respectful and active learners who recognise the importance of physical activity in school and beyond.
